Honouring Excellence, Research, Leadership and Service in Pain Medicine

Like past years, the ICRAPAIN Awards 2026 celebrate outstanding pain physicians, researchers, young achievers, educators, innovators, and ambassadors who are contributing to the growth of pain medicine through clinical excellence, research, academic work, patient awareness, and service to society.

These awards will be presented during ICRAPAIN 2026 – the 10th International Conference on Recent Advances in Pain, organized in Kolkata from 4th to 6th September 2026.

All awards are based on nominations.
A candidate may be nominated by another physician, colleague, institution, academic body, or professional organization.
Self-nomination is also allowed.

Award Categories

1. Pain Physician of the Year Award

This award recognizes an established pain physician who has made significant contributions to pain medicine through clinical practice, academic leadership, research, training, innovation, and service.

Ideal nominee:
A senior or established pain physician with a strong track record in pain practice, academic contribution, publications, teaching, training, conference participation, leadership, and patient care.

2. Young Pain Physician of the Year Award

This award recognizes a promising young pain physician (38 years of age or below) who has shown exceptional dedication, academic growth, clinical commitment, research interest, and leadership potential in pain medicine.

Suggested eligibility:
Similar to the “Pain Physician of the Year Award” at a younger age.

3. Best Research Award

This award recognizes high-quality published research in pain medicine, including original clinical research, interventional pain studies, musculoskeletal ultrasound research, regenerative medicine research, case series, systematic reviews, meta-analyses, and innovative academic work.

Ideal nominee:
A physician, researcher, fellow, or academic contributor whose research has practical relevance, scientific merit, ethical clarity, and potential impact on pain practice.

4. Pain Ambassador Award (5 in number)

This award recognizes the pain physicians, educators, or healthcare professionals who have actively promoted pain awareness, patient education, community service, training, advocacy, or access to pain care.

Ideal nominee:
Someone who has worked beyond routine clinical practice to spread awareness about pain medicine, organize camps, educate patients, mentor physicians, publish public education material, or promote pain care in underserved areas.

5. Dr Gautam Das and Late Mrs Amatya Scholarship Award

Purpose of the Award

This scholarship award aims to:

Encourage Nepali fellows to publish scientific work in pain medicine
Promote research culture among young pain physicians from Nepal
Support academic growth in interventional pain medicine
Recognize high-quality publication emerging from fellowship training
Strengthen academic collaboration between Nepal, NPCRC, and Daradia

Eligibility Criteria

The nominee/applicant must be:

A Nepali citizen
Admitted to the Daradia Fellowship in Interventional Pain Medicine
A current fellow or recent fellow of the program
Author or co-author of a scientific publication related to pain medicine
Able to submit proof of publication or acceptance

General Eligibility

Nominees may be from India or any other country.

The nominee should be involved in one or more of the following:

Pain medicine practice
Interventional pain management
Musculoskeletal ultrasound in pain medicine
Regenerative medicine in pain practice
Cancer pain, palliative pain, neuropathic pain, or musculoskeletal pain care
Pain research and publication
Pain education and training
Patient awareness and public education
Community service related to pain management

Nomination Criteria

The selection committee will evaluate nominees based on documented achievements. Candidates should submit relevant evidence wherever possible.

A. Professional Position and Pain Practice

Points may be considered for:

Full-time or major involvement in pain medicine practice
Leadership role in a pain clinic, hospital, academic department, or pain organization
Contribution to developing pain services
Interventional pain practice experience
Multidisciplinary pain management work
Work in underserved regions or new pain practice development

B. Educational Qualification and Training

Relevant qualifications may include:

MD, DA, DNB, or equivalent qualification in anesthesiology or allied specialties
Fellowship or formal training in pain medicine
Observership, hands-on training, cadaveric training, or international training in pain management
Certification in interventional pain, ultrasound, fluoroscopy-guided procedures, or regenerative pain medicine
Academic teaching experience in pain medicine

C. Publications, Research, and Academic Contribution

The committee may consider:

Articles published in peer-reviewed journals
Original research in pain medicine
Systematic reviews, meta-analyses, or clinical studies
Case reports or case series with academic value
Abstracts presented at national or international conferences
Book chapters in pain medicine
Authorship or editorship of pain medicine books
Reviewer, editorial board member, associate editor, or editor of a peer-reviewed journal
Research awards, abstract prizes, or publication awards

D. Teaching, Training, and Mentorship

The nominee may submit evidence of:

Teaching pain medicine to physicians, fellows, residents, or students
Conducting workshops, CMEs, webinars, or hands-on training
Mentoring young pain physicians
Developing academic content, protocols, videos, or teaching modules
Contribution as faculty in national or international conferences
Organizing pain courses or academic programs

E. Conference Participation and Academic Leadership

The committee may consider:

Participation in national or international pain conferences
Faculty lectures, panel discussions, or workshops
Scientific committee roles
Organizing committee roles
Contribution to conference academic planning
International collaboration in pain medicine

F. Social Service, Patient Awareness and Advocacy

Evidence may include:

Free pain camps or charity pain services
Pain awareness lectures for the public
Patient education videos, blogs, articles, or media appearances
Newspaper, magazine, radio, television, or digital awareness activity
Work for improving access to pain care
Service to elderly, cancer pain patients, low-income patients, or underserved communities
Public advocacy for recognition of pain medicine

Selection Process

All nominations will be screened by the ICRAPAIN Awards Committee.
Shortlisted nominees may be asked to submit additional documents or evidence.
The final decision will be made by an expert review committee.
The committee may decide not to present an award in a category if suitable nominations are not received.
The decision of the awards committee will be final.

The ICRAPAIN Awards aim to recognize these contributions and inspire more physicians to contribute to evidence-based, ethical, compassionate, and accessible pain care.

Can I nominate myself?

Yes. Self-nomination is allowed.

Can I nominate someone else?

Yes. You may nominate a colleague, teacher, student, researcher, or pain physician whose contribution deserves recognition.

Can international candidates apply?

Yes. The awards are open to nominees from India and other countries.

Can one person apply for more than one award?

Yes, but a separate nomination should be submitted for each category.

Is publication mandatory?

Publication is not mandatory for every award. However, publications and research work will strengthen nominations, especially for the Best Research Award and Pain Physician of the Year Award.
